UFP-08 Eidanger is a part of the Vestfold Railway project between Farriseidet and Porsgrunn and included works for a double track line, both open and in tunnel.

Project scope. The Eidanger tunnel was the main part of the UFP-08 Eidanger contract. The contract was one of four railway engineering contracts between Farriseidet and Porsgrunn. The project included about 3 km ground works for the double track line, around 1.5 km of tunnel with double tracks in one tube, and installation works on the entire tunnel. In addition, approx. 0.8 km cross section/escape tunnel, construction of approx. 45 m cut and cover tunnel, as well as portals, technical buildings and a small bridge. One of the most challenging aspects of this project was the cut & cover tunnel which goes through a weak zone with little cover.

Cuts travel time in half. UFP-08 Eidanger is a part of the new railway between Larvik and Porsgrunn. The section has double tracks and is dimensioned for a speed up to 250 km/h. The new railway is approx. 22.7 km long and almost the entire section is realigned in a route without level crossings. Approx. 15 km of the total distance is in a tunnel. There will also be built ten bridges on the route without stations for embarking or disembarking between Larvik and Porsgrunn. Travel time will be reduced from approx. 34 min with the current situation to approx. 12 min after this development.
